2012 vs 2012...

After toasting the New Year with a glass of champagne conversation in our house turned to how one refers to the year in numerical terms.  We celebrated this year with a German friend who was puzzling over the two options: twenty twelve or two thousand and twelve.

Our guests were split but I am firmly in the two thousand and twelve camp.  I know that it is long winded but it somehow feels more elegant.  The other feels more factual and for me will forever be associated with the Olympics.  I don't care much for the Olympics if truth be told and for that, and other reasons, I shall be elongating 2012 at every opportunity!
